In UAE the simplest way to get all your government work done, without having to go outside, is with the UAE PASS. This smart initiative was launched by the government of the UAE, and it is a digital signature that allows you access to more than 5000 government services. In response to an announcement on April 7, applicants do not even have to visit a kiosk to provide biometric data through their fingerprints. Instead, facial recognition technology is now being used to identify individuals. Use your phone to pay bills, apply for visas, and launch a business with facial recognition.

The UAE PASS application process is described here if you wish to know more about it.

What is UAE PASS?

In 2018, the UAE launched PASS as part of its long-term strategy – UAE Vision 2021 and UAE Centennial 2071. Vision 2021 for the UAE aims to make it among the best countries in the world by the Golden Jubilee of the Union based on six basic pillars. Sustainability of the environment and infrastructure is one of the six pillars of the national agenda.

Dubai's Strategic Affairs Council adopted the UAE PASS policy as one of the Council's initiatives on May 1, 2020. Using a single username and password, users can access more than 5,000 government services.

What are the differences between DubaiID, SmartPass, and UAE PASS?

As the name suggests, DubaiID is exclusively for government services in Dubai. Smart Passes were available for residents of Abu Dhabi and other emirates. UAE PASS, however, has been designed to provide access to a broad range of government-related services regardless of the Emirate you are in, as part of the UAE's move towards integrated smart government services.

UAE PASS was launched in 2018 through a collaboration between Smart Dubai, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority.

Residents and visitors of the UAE can use the UAE PASS to access government services and make regular payments, like their mobile phone bills, and it offers access to websites like DubaiNow and even legal services, such as applying for a residency visa or buying a home. With the use of an electronic signature, this is possible.

A key feature of UAE PASS is that it provides users with an electronic signature, the same as signing a document with a pen. UAE law recognizes your electronic signature as valid. The UAE PASS signature can be used whether you are securing a new contract or purchasing a property or car using the government's smart services. This is the first time the government has provided digital signature solutions to the region.

Level of security of digital signature in UAE PASS

To provide a safe operating environment for UAEPass users, a number of measures are taken to secure the signature and the online services. With the SHA-256 hashing algorithm, digital signatures are protected.

Digital Signature

SHA-256 (Standard Hashing Algorithm)

Standard Hashing Algorithm is known as SHA, and it was developed by the National Security Agency in the US. The SHA-256 algorithm is a one-way function, which means it cannot be decrypted back into the original text.
