Though the year’s longest holiday may be over, the next best — a likely five-day break — is just weeks away.</p>
<p>Residents in the UAE will most likely enjoy the extended weekend to mark the holiest day in Islam - Arafah Day — and the Eid Al Adha festival. The break will be in the second week of June. The exact dates will be announced closer to the date, according to Sheikh Ayaz Houzee, Imam of NGS and Khateeb at Al Manar Islamic Centre.</p>
<p>Eid Al Adha falls approximately two months and a few days after Eid Al Fitr, as per the Islamic calendar's lunar-based system. “Due to the Islamic calendar’s reliance on the lunar cycle, it sees shifts in the dates of both Eid festivals each year, advancing approximately 10 to 11 days earlier annually,” said Sheikh Ayaz.</p>
<p>All Islamic Hijri calendar months last 29 or 30 days depending on when the crescent moon is spotted in the night sky. Arafah Day is on Dhul Hijjah 9 in the Islamic calendar. Eid Al Adha is celebrated three days later.</p>
<p>Likely Eid break dates</p>
<p>As per the Hijri calendar published on the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) website, Dhul Hijjah 1 is likely on Saturday, June 8. Astronomical calculations predict the same date, according to Khadijah Ahmad, operations manager, Dubai Astronomy Group.</p>
<p>If this is the case, Arafah Day is on Sunday, June 16 (Dhul Hijjah 9). Eid Al Adha is then on Monday, June 17 (Dhul Hijjah 10). The break, therefore, is from Sunday, June 16, to Wednesday, June 19. Including the weekend (Saturday, June 15), that’s five days off to mark the festival. These dates will be revised if needed depending on moon sightings.</p>
<p>Significance of Eid Al Adha</p>
<p>Eid al-Adha is the festival of sacrifice, and is one of the most significant occasions in Islam. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah.</p>
<p>Eid al Adha is a reminder of the values of faith, sacrifice, and compassion ingrained in Islamic values. The day begins with Eid prayers at mosques, where Muslims gather to seek blessings and guidance.</p>
<p>Post prayers, they exchange greetings and embrace each other, expressing joy and gratitude.</p>
<p>Delicious feasts are prepared, symbolising the abundance and generosity of God's blessings.</p>
<p>The highlight of Eid al-Adha celebration is the Qurbani or the act of sacrificing animals which symbolizes Prophet Ibrahim's (PBUH) act of devotion to Allah.</p>
<p>The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts - one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for the less fortunate in the community.</p>

Rainfall has already begun in certain areas of the UAE, particularly along the coast.”</p>
<p>Rainfall of various intensities will lash the country with the weather deteriorating by this evening.</p>
<p>“Thunderclouds accompanied by strong winds will surround the region, reducing visibility across the eastern parts of the country. Abu Dhabi is already experiencing a wind speed of 1000km/hr.”</p>
<p>He said convective cloud formation was currently underway. “These clouds are expected to intensify over the next several hours. Rainfall has already begun in certain areas of the UAE, particularly along the coast.”</p>
<p>Rainfall of various intensities will lash the country with the weather deteriorating by this evening.</p>
<p>“Thunderclouds accompanied by strong winds will surround the region, reducing visibility across the eastern parts of the country. Abu Dhabi is already experiencing a wind speed of 1000km/hr.”</p>
<p>Two unstable weather waves</p>
<p>The veteran weatherman stressed that this is the first wave that will continue till tomorrow morning. “Starting tomorrow afternoon in the western region of the UAE, a new wave will gradually advance towards Abu Dhabi. By tomorrow afternoon and evening, it will progressively spread to the northern and eastern regions of the UAE, including Al Ain.”</p>
<p>It’s worth noting that over the last few days weather conditions have been unstable in Oman with authorities there issuing weather alerts for residents.</p>
<p>Online learning options for RAK schools</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Ras Al Khaimah Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Team has opted to transition schools to remote learning for two days, specifically Tuesday and Wednesday, in light of the anticipated weather conditions.</p>
<p>Additionally, the RAK Public Services Department has also declared the temporary shutdown of all parks and beaches within the city until additional notice.</p>
<p>“By evening and into the night, this scenario is expected to escalate. Unstable weather conditions begin over the Western areas and move towards Abu Dhabi and the Northern and Eastern areas, where the amount of convective clouds increases, associated with rainfall of different intensities leading to a decrease in temperature, accompanied by lightning and thunder, and a probability of hail over some areas,” Habib added.</p>
<p>Same low-pressure system influences Oman</p>
<p>“The same low-pressure system influencing Oman is also impacting the UAE. However, due to differing topographies, the intensity varies. Oman features extensive Hajar mountain ranges spanning from North to South, resulting in more cloud cover and rainfall compared to the UAE,” he added.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the UAE’s meteorology centre issued an advisory for thunderstorms in many parts of the country.</p>
<p>“Residents, particularly motorists, should exercise caution as there is a possibility of heavy rainfall and water logging. Flooding is expected in the Wadi area, with potential landslides occurring in the northern and eastern regions near the mountains,” he added.</p>

<p>Severe weather conditions began on March 9. Heavy rain and thunder lashed several parts of the country that night, with many residents waking up to showers, dark skies and strong winds the following day.</p>

<p>The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Dubai also released a statement on Thursday, “assuring the public that all efforts are being undertaken to ensure that Filipinos affected by the floods are provided assistance".</p>
<p>“The Consulate and MWO-OWWA (Migrant Workers Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Association) are in close coordination with Dubai authorities to obtain accurate and updated information so that we can give urgent support to our countrymen affected the extreme weather conditions,” PCG added, noting: “On the reported deaths of Filipinos in Dubai, the Consulate is coordinating with Dubai Police to ascertain details including the cause of death. <p>وأصدرت القنصلية العامة الفلبينية في دبي أيضًا بيانًا يوم الخميس "تؤكد فيه للجمهور أنه يتم بذل كل الجهود لضمان تقديم المساعدة للفلبينيين المتضررين من الفيضانات".</p>
<p>وأضافت PCG: "تقوم القنصلية وMWO-OWWA (مكتب العمال المهاجرين - جمعية رعاية العمال في الخارج) بالتنسيق الوثيق مع سلطات دبي للحصول على معلومات دقيقة ومحدثة حتى نتمكن من تقديم الدعم العاجل لمواطنينا المتأثرين بالظروف الجوية القاسية". مشيراً إلى أنه “فيما يتعلق بوفيات الفلبينيين المبلغ عنها في دبي، تقوم القنصلية بالتنسيق مع شرطة دبي للتأكد من التفاصيل بما في ذلك سبب الوفاة”. سيسمح لنا هذا أيضًا بتقديم المساعدة اللازمة لـ NOK (أقرباء الأقارب).</p>
<p>وقالت PCG إنها "تعمل جنبًا إلى جنب مع منظمات المجتمع الفلبيني في دبي لتكون قادرة على الوصول إلى المتضررين".</p>
