Three new cases of monkeypox have been reported in the UAE. As part of its message, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) encouraged all community members to take the necessary precautions and follow appropriate preventive measures when travelling, to stay safe in large crowds, and to avoid risky behaviours.
Compared to a viral infection like Covid-19, monkeypox is usually self-limited. It is mainly transmitted to humans through close contact with infected persons and animals, including respiratory droplets, or through contaminated material. The virus can also be transmitted to the unborn child, the Ministry added.
Also included are assurances that all necessary measures are being taken, such as investigations, examination of contacts, and continued monitoring of members of the community.
A monkeypox case was reported in the UAE on May 24. 29-year-old West African visitor was found to have contracted the infection.
