In a tragic incident on Tuesday, May 16, a multi-vehicle collision at an intersection near the port of Fujairah claimed the lives of a 17-year-old Emirati male and a 44-year-old female citizen. Additionally, two other individuals sustained injuries ranging from serious to moderate.

The accident occurred when two vehicles collided with an overloaded truck at the intersection (crossing road) towards the port of Fujairah. The Fujairah Police General Command promptly arrived at the scene upon receiving the information and successfully rescued the remaining passengers involved in the collision.

A preliminary investigation conducted by Emarat AlYoum revealed that the truck driver, who was of Arab descent, was operating an overloaded vehicle. It was further discovered that the driver had exceeded the permissible speed limit, resulting in the loss of control and subsequent collision with the two cars.

The fire ignited by the accident was swiftly extinguished by the Civil Defence teams, who efficiently extricated the trapped passengers from the burning vehicle. Both the truck driver and the driver of one of the vehicles were transported to the hospital by the national ambulance service. Unfortunately, the young man accompanied by his father in the first vehicle and the woman in the other vehicle succumbed to their injuries.

Fujairah Police authorities have issued a warning about the grave consequences of driving heavy vehicles at speeds exceeding the permitted limits on both internal and external roads. They emphasized the fact that such reckless driving significantly compromises a driver's ability to effectively control their vehicle, particularly in emergency situations.
