To ensure suppliers and supermarkets are not hiking up prices of food and essentials amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Dubai Economy has launched a ‘Price Monitor’ portal to track the products’ daily prices, reported Emirates news agency WAM.

The portal - Price.ded.ae - is aimed at preventing and tackling price manipulation, and improving consumers’ awareness of their rights, Dubai Economy said.

Moreover, the initiative was launched to strengthen the government entity’s communication with consumers and enable them to raise their queries easily, with the Dubai Economy advising customers to file their complaints on the portal in Arabic or English, along with supporting images.

The price monitor will allow consumers to track and compare the prices of 41 basic needs including rice, bread, flour, cooking oil, meat, poultry, fish, milk, eggs, water, salt, sugar fruits and vegetables, as well as hygiene essentials such as sanitisers and face masks.

Dubai Economy's Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector will work with retail chains and supermarkets to publish a daily list of minimum and maximum price for goods based on demand and supply in the local market.
