The UAE reported 304 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, taking the country's infections tally to 42,294.

The cases were confirmed following 43,000 additional tests conducted in the past 24 hours across the country.

Authorities from the Ministry of Health and Prevention said a further 701 people had recovered from the virus, while one had died.

Figures showed that 27,462 people – or nearly 65 per cent of those who have tested positive in the Emirates – have already made a full recovery.

About 15,000 cases remain active, including one patient who is in a critical condition.

To fight the virus, the UAE is relying on plasma treatment that was recently introduced in the country.

The initial results of plasma therapy have been promising, and patients with moderate to severe symptoms have responded well to the treatment.

On Sunday, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, Seha, said they have obtained 402 blood plasma units from donors who were cured of the virus.

This new treatment has been used on 247 patients, who have since recovered, in the emirate since June 1.Globally, coronavirus cases have now reached 7.8 million with four million recoveries and more than 432,000 deaths.

The United States has recorded the largest number of fatalities at more than 117,500, followed by Brazil with close to 43,000 deaths.

In the UAE, 289 patients have died from the virus, while more than 2.6m residents have been tested.

Last week, officials announced the launch of a nationwide poll of federal government employees to assess the impact of Covid-19.

The study aims to identify Emirati attitudes towards current movement restrictions, as well as seeking feedback on remote working, distance learning and social-distancing regulations.

“The survey introduces the challenges facing Emirati community as a result of Covid-19. Has the government dealt wisely with the crisis?” said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Community Development, which is collating the research.
