The Dubai Health Authority announced today, that the period of quarantine and quarantine for some specific cases of people with the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) and those in contact with contacts has been shortened, to 10 days instead of 14 days, based on the results of international studies that confirmed that the majority of virus cases occur within days. The first ten from the date of the last contact with a patient carrying the virus.

The authority said that the shortening of the quarantine and quarantine period applies to some specific cases, and includes: patients with Covid-19 virus who have not had symptoms since their laboratory infection with the virus, or patients who have had mild symptoms without using fever-reducing drugs.

The authority stressed that those close contacts of confirmed cases of Covid-19 virus, and they did not show any symptoms, must adhere to the new quarantine period of 10 days, starting from the last day they had contact with the confirmed case.

With regard to patients infected with the virus who receive medical care in the hospital for treatment of moderate, severe or critical symptoms associated with the virus, the Dubai Health Authority has indicated that the patient can be allowed to leave the hospital after performing two consecutive PCR tests, 24 hours apart (or more), and their results are negative. The patient must not have had a high temperature for more than three days without the use of any fever reducers, as well as an improvement in his ability to breathe, and radiography should show a clear improvement in the lung condition.  

The authority stated that these patients must isolate themselves for a period of seven days after their discharge from the hospital, while they will have to consult the doctor if symptoms appear again within a two-week period after leaving the hospital.
