A top UAE official has announced that Covid-19 cases have surged by 100 percent in a week. There has also been an increase in hospitalizations.

There were nearly 450 infections daily at the beginning of June 2022, but there were more than 1,300 by June 13 of the same year.

In April, cases had dropped below 200 before stabilizing around 300. Cases peaked at over 3,000 daily infections in January of this year. The number of cases has risen dramatically this month.

On Monday, a spokesperson from the government told a press briefing that authorities have noticed some residents have not complied with Covid-19 safety measures.

In this case, masks aren't worn indoors. A spokesperson said violators would be fined Dh3,000. As a result, more inspections will be conducted to make sure people wear masks indoors.
