Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has confirmed a second death from coronavirus and recorded 133 new cases on Wednesday, taking the total number of infections to 900.

It comes as the country locks down its capital Riyadh and Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

According to directives from King Salman, people in the three cities will be prohibited entry or exit, while curfew hours there will be extended by four hours from Thursday, state-run Saudi Press Agency reported, now starting at 3pm.

The partial curfew was originally imposed earlier this week for a period of 21 days.

The country also imposed further travel restrictions, banning residents of the 13 regions in the kingdom from leaving or moving to another region.

Authorities have already arrested ten individuals in total for breaching the curfew and posting various videos and images on social media.
