Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, has approved plans to open a court dedicated to cases of commercial law in Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Commercial Court is being launched in an effort to improve the emirate's economic competitiveness, said Youssef Al Ebri, undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

Currently, commercial cases are heard in specialised departments that fall under the main courts.

However, having a court designated for commercial cases is expected to speed up legal procedures and enhance commercial activity in the emirate.

The jurisdiction of the court will take in all business cases, including disputes between civil and commercial matters.

The court will also deal with disputes, arbitration, and appeals claims related to the execution of foreign judgements, orders and bonds when the subject is a commercial dispute, whether foreign courts or arbitral tribunals issue the judgments.
