The UAE reported 1,214 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, raising its total to 145,599.

A further 741 patients recovered from the virus as the overall tally climbed to 140,442.

The death toll in the Emirates now stands at 520 after two more people died.

The latest infections were detected following 114,653 daily tests.
Close to 14.5 million tests have been conducted nationwide since the outbreak began.

Mass screening of the public remains a cornerstone of the UAE's strategy to curb the spread of the virus.

The number of active cases in the country has risen to 4,637, due to a recent trend of fresh infections exceeding recoveries.

In the past seven days, the UAE has recorded 8,289 coronavirus cases at an average of 1,184 per day.

During the same period, 5,459 people have recovered from the virus at a daily average of 779.

The number of new infections has outstripped recoveries in each of the past seven days.

This is in contrast to the month of October, when recovery rates remained above 1,000 each day and consistently exceeded new cases.

Officials have once again called on the public to show their support for the country's precautionary measures to help control the spread of Covid-19.

Dr Saif Al Dhaheri, the official spokesperson for National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, said the country was planning its recovery from the pandemic.

"The success of the planning stage for recovery is largely dependent on society," he said during a regular briefing on Tuesday.

"One of the duties of the individual is to continue to commit to preventive measures as the responsibility rests with everyone."
