In the United Arab Emirates, a groundbreaking initiative is set to revolutionize the way UAE nationals and residents renew their passports and process Emirates IDs. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) is developing an innovative project featuring 24/7 kiosks that will offer seamless and instant services.
This project aims to provide unmatched convenience to the people of the UAE. Once successfully implemented, these kiosks will be strategically placed at prominent locations throughout the country, including airports and shopping malls.
At the recent Gitex Global event held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Federal Authority showcased a prototype kiosk, allowing visitors to experience the future of these services. Gitex, the world's largest technology gathering, hosted over 6,000 public and private sector companies and startups, unveiling their latest innovations.
The initial phase of the project will enable UAE residents and visitors to submit their biometrics using these kiosks. This eliminates the need for scheduling appointments at the ICP service centers since the kiosks will be operational 24/7.
Moreover, these kiosks will be equipped with printers that can instantly produce Emirates IDs and visas for UAE nationals and residents. The kiosks will also be capable of printing passports for UAE nationals and visas for visitors, streamlining the entire process.
These innovative kiosks are not limited to locals and residents. Foreign visitors can also utilize them to submit their biometrics for obtaining SIM cards. The kiosks will capture fingerprints, signatures, and photographs with efficiency.
The Federal Authority is actively working on this transformative project, with plans for a potential rollout in either 2023 or 2024 following successful trials.
