UAE Announces 3,102 Covid-19 Cases, 3,814 Recoveries, 19 Deaths On Wednesday

Over 29.8 million tests have been conducted across the UAE to date.
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday reported 3,102 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 3,814 recoveries and 19 deaths.
The new cases were detected through 179,229 additional tests.

Over 29.8 million tests have been conducted across the UAE to date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The total number of cases in UAE as on February 24 are 378,637 while total recoveries stand at 370,381. The death toll rises to 1,164.India on Tuesday confirmed the detection of two new variants of novel coronavirus, other than the Brazilian, UK and South African, in at least three Indian states.

The variants, AN440K and E484Q have been found circulating in a few districts of Maharashtra, Kerala and Telangana, authorities said.

The confirmation comes against the backdrop of Maharashtra and Kerala reporting an upsurge in Covid-19 cases, and both states accounting for more than 75 per cent of overall active caseload of the country, as of Tuesday.

Meanwhile, UAE passengers to India have been advised to carry at least Rs2,000 (Dh100) per passenger, depending on their destination, as airports in India are charging different prices for Covid testing services on arrival.

All international passengers whose flights originate from the UAE must undergo self-paid molecular tests at the airport, as per the new Covid-19 travel protocol.

On Tuesday, health authorities in the UAE announced that field hospitals have been set up to deal with Covid cases in the country.

More such hospitals will be set up, till a total of seven are up and running, according to a top official.
