Abu Dhabi: The UAE announced the detection of 941 new coronavirus cases and 6 COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday. In a press briefing, the Ministry of Health and Prevention also announced the latest number of recoveries - 1,018.

The total confirmed coronavirus cases are now 26,004 in the UAE. Out of these, 13,962 individuals are getting necessary treatment, Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE Government added. Al Shamsi said that the new cases were detected following 43,732 tests conducted over the past few days.

The number of recoveries from COVID-19 have reached 11,809, including the latest figures announced today.

The total death toll from COVID-19 is now 233 from various nationalities.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesman of the health sector in the country, said the success of the new Al Hosn UAE App depends mainly on number of users, hence, the objectives of the application will not be achieved at the required level unless 50 to 70 per cent of the country population download the application and use it effectively.

She added that the awareness programs that have been launched recently focus mainly on the elderly and people who are more prone to suffer disease complications. She also stressed the importance of washing hands, sterilizing surfaces, and changing some habits such as avoiding handshaking and maintaining physical distance.

Importantly, she said there is no evidence coronavirus can spread through the water in swimming pools or bathtubs, but advised on the importance of following the health guidelines and physical distancing when using swimming pools, especially if crowded.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention denies what has been circulated in a viral video in which a person states that there is shortage of medical masks in one of its hospitals, confirming that all hospitals and medical centres in the country are equipped and have all medical supplies.

MoHAP cordinates on a daily basis with all hospitals in the country to ensure their readiness in terms of medical equipment and supplies, in addition to the availability of medical staff and specialists.
