Dubai: Authorities have warned users of WhatsApp and other social media networking sites in the UAE about a new scam doing the rounds.
Fraudsters are reportedly forwarding messages that are designed to trick people into sharing their  personal information such as usernames, passwords and credit card numbers.

In its Instagram account, the Abu Dhabi Police warned that on WhatsApp alone, users are being targeted by fake messages that encourage users to share an activation code in order to gain access to their accounts.

The police advised residents to be extra cautious when using social media sites or platforms and keep an eye out for fake messages that are out to steal user accounts. And should anyone forward them a message that encourages them to click on a link, they should avoid doing so.
Users should also not share any personal information through sites or easily fall for messages telling them that they have won a prize.
