A young Arab man, accused of stealing money and mobile charge cards from grocery shops, was arrested in Abu Dhabi.

He was accused of indulging in robberies in different neighbourhoods by driving in a luxury car with unclear plate numbers, Abu Dhabi police reported on Monday.

According to the Abu Dhabi police's official Instagram account, the accused used to approach grocery owners for a mobile card along with change for Dh1,000.

On receiving the card, he would run away in his car without paying, believing no one can read his number plate.

Brigadier General Musallam Mohammad Al Ameri, director of the police directorate of the external areas in the criminal security sector said that Abu Dhabi police was informed about similar incidents.

A team was formed to investigate the incident and collect information that led to the arrest of the accused man from his accommodation. He confessed to his crime and his case was submitted to the public prosecution.

Al Ameri has urged the workers at grocery shops to pay attention to such incidents and collect money from the customers first.
