A Comprehensive Guide for Expats Exiting the UAE Permanently
If you're an expat preparing to leave the UAE permanently, it's essential to complete all necessary formalities to ensure a smooth departure. This article outlines the critical steps you need to take while exiting the country, including handling your visa, bank accounts, and other important matters.
End-of-service benefits: Your employer is required to pay your end-of-service benefits, which may include gratuity, unpaid salaries, cash allowance for unused annual leave, and air ticket fare. Ensure you receive these benefits upon completion of your employment.
Service certificate: Request a service certificate from your employer, detailing the nature of your work and the duration of your employment.
Visa cancellation for family members: If you have sponsored family members' residency visas, you will need to cancel these before your own visa can be canceled.
Bank account closure: Visit your bank branch to close your account(s) and obtain an account closure letter. If you have outstanding loans or credit card balances, settle these and request a "no due certificate" or loan/credit card facility closure letter.
