Abu Dhabi to Introduce Minimum Speed Limit on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road from April.

Abu Dhabi Police have announced the implementation of a minimum speed limit of 120kmph on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road beginning April, with a fine of Dh400 imposed on violators from May 1st. The maximum speed limit on the major highway will be 140kmph, with the minimum speed requirement applying only to the first and second lanes from the left.

Slower vehicles can use the third lane, where no minimum speed limit is specified. However, heavy vehicles must use the last lane of the road and will not be covered by the minimum speed rule. Those caught driving below 120kmph on the designated lanes will receive warning notices in April, followed by fines in May.

Maj-Gen Ahmed Saif bin Zaytoun Al Muhairi, director of the Central Operations Sector, said that the introduction of the minimum speed limit is aimed at improving road safety and encouraging slower vehicles to use appropriate lanes.

In addition to adhering to the new rule, drivers were reminded to ensure the road is clear before changing lanes and to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. These measures will help ensure safer roads for everyone in Abu Dhabi.

If you plan to drive on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road, make sure to comply with the new minimum speed limit and stay safe on the road.
