There are certain nitty-gritties associated with Salik that every UAE resident must be aware of. These are as follows:

What to do and what not to do when using Salik

1. The Salik tag should be attached to the vehicle which it has been assigned to based on the Salik application.

2. You should never move the same tag to another vehicle.

3. Changes in the number plate of the vehicle or the driver's mobile number should be reported to the authorities.

4. After Salik is installed on your vehicle, you should buy a Salik tag and place it on your windshield within ten working days.

5. If your Salik account does not have sufficient funds, you should recharge it within 5 working days.

Fines associated with Salik

1. Not enough funds in the Salik account:

AED 50 (for each day after the five day grace period, and the driver may violate the rule once per day if he or she passes the checkpoints multiple times)
 
2. A vehicle that does not have a Salik tag:   
 
-AED 100 on the first journey (after the 10-working day grace period)
-AED 200 on the second journey (after the 10-working day grace period)
-In addition to the third trip, all subsequent trips will be charged AED 400 (after the 10-working day grace period).

The cost of Salik Tag:

1. Setting up your Salik account: The Salik tag will cost AED 50, and the prepaid toll balance of AED 50 will be added to the Salik account.

2. Maximum recharge amounts: AED 50 to AED 50,000

3. For delivery of Salik tags: AED 20

4. For each toll gate, there is a fee: AED 4

Where and when can you drive free of charge at Salik points?

1. During weekends, from Thursday, 10:00 pm to Friday 9:00 am @ Al Maktoum Bridge tolling point

2. During Weekdays from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am @ Al Maktoum Bridge tolling point

Exemption from Salik toll fees for vehicles: 

1. Military vehicle

2. Police vehicle

3. Ambulance

4. RTA public bus

5. School bus

6. College bus
