Abu Dhabi: Police will amend the speed limits on the internal and external roads of the emirate of Abu Dhabi and remove the grace speeds from August 12, a statement from Abu Dhabi Police said on Wednesday.
Radars on different roads will be reset as per the amended speeds on the emirate’s roads.

Major General Mohammad Khalfan Al Romaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said the amendment to the speed limit on the roads was implemented after studies were conducted as per road accidents index and traffic density on the roads.
Abu Dhabi Police will also launch wide awareness campaigns among the public to educate them about the new speed limits and removal of grace speeds on the internal and external roads of the emirate.

Currently, drivers get an additional grace speed of 20 kilometres per hour on each road from the defined speed limits on each road.
For example, if the speed limit on external roads is 120km per hour, motorists can go up to 140km per hour; and radars are set to capture at 141km per hour.
He urged motorists to cooperate with the traffic police to yield positive results and obey the new speed limits, which will be implemented as per international standards to make roads safer.
