Every month, thousands of individuals in the UAE embark on journeys to Saudi Arabia, whether for Umrah, religious tourism, or simply to reunite with friends and loved ones. The good news is that a revolutionary system has been introduced in the UAE, making the border crossing into Saudi Arabia an effortless and efficient experience. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) recently unveiled the Smart Land Borders Crossing system at the ongoing Gitex Global exhibition.

The Al Ghuwaifat border serves as a vital connection between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, facilitating travel via a key road crossing. With this innovative system in place, the process of traveling to the neighboring country becomes not only seamless but also significantly faster.

To utilize the Smart Land Borders Crossing system, motorists simply need to have their vehicles registered under their names. The system will scan the car's number plate and swiftly open the first barrier for the driver. In the next step, travelers will scan their passports, Emirates ID, and provide biometrics or undergo facial recognition. Once the ICP system successfully verifies the data, the second barrier will open, allowing the motorists to exit the country.

However, if the system fails to verify an individual, they will need to park their vehicle and follow the traditional route, visiting immigration for verification in order to exit the country.

At the Gitex pavilion, an ICP representative informed Khaleej Times that the current system accommodates a maximum of two people in a car. They further mentioned, "We are actively working on a program to enhance the system, allowing more people in a single car to enjoy this efficient process."

Currently, the Smart Land Borders Crossing system is operational exclusively at the Al Ghuwaifat border. As the next phase of this transformative initiative unfolds, the system is poised to extend its reach to other border crossings near Oman.

Gitex Global, the world's largest technology exhibition, is currently being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, featuring over 6,000 companies and startups showcasing their latest products.
