Emirates IDs are the most important identification documents for UAE residents and they must always be carried with them. In addition to granting access to government services, the ID also links to important documents like your health insurance and UAE Pass. The following steps explain what you need to do if your identity has been stolen, lost, or even damaged in any way.

Before requesting a replacement ID card, it is important to report the missing card.

Report the incident as soon as possible:

If you believe your Emirates ID has been stolen or lost, you should immediately contact the nearest customer happiness centre of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP). By doing so, the stolen or lost card will be deactivated, ensuring that it cannot be misused by others.

In order to register your lost ID, you must ask the ICP for confirmation of the ID number or a copy of the lost ID, according to the UAE government portal. Bring the old card in case of damaged cards.

The following documents must be presented to prove your identity when filing a report for a stolen or lost ID:

1. It is mandatory for expat residents to bring their original passport stamped with a valid residency permit.

2. For the lost ID of children under age 15, a copy of the child's original birth certificate must be provided along with a passport photo that is coloured against a white background.

3. Emirates nationals must bring an original, valid passport and a family book.

4. Those from the GCC must provide proof of residency in the UAE.

Apply for a replacement card:

The application for a replacement card can be submitted at the ICP Customer Happiness center itself. A replacement card can also be obtained through the ICP website, the ICP smartphone application, 'ICP UAE', or at an accredited typing center.
