Dubai Culture has introduced an abra ride that takes residents and tourists on an intriguing journey through Dubai's history, tracing its origins from a humble fishing village. Participants gain insights into the city's evolution from a pearling town to a global metropolis, embarking on the ferry ride from the Al Shindagah Museum pier. Guides narrate the early days of Dubai, fostering a connection to the past and evoking memories of bygone eras.

During this approximately one-hour experience, participants cruise along the iconic Dubai Creek, offering a unique vantage point to absorb the city's ambiance and witness its development from various creek locations.

The abra, a traditional wooden boat integral to Dubai's history, was historically used by residents to cross the creek.

Described as a "ride of knowledge," the boat glides through the creek while the tour guide provides insights into the architecture and trade on Bur Dubai's side, along with details about the ancient towns of Shindagah and Fahidi, where the Al Maktoum family resided.

Continuing the journey, participants learn about the redevelopment of Al Seef, observing the blend of ancient and modern architecture. The experience also includes insights into the historical mosques and their significance dating back to ancient times.

Linking Dubai through its Roadways

The abra will traverse beneath Al Maktoum Bridge, providing visitors with insights into its construction. Subsequently, the boat will execute a U-turn, returning via the Floating Bridge, where the guide will elaborate on this distinctive piece of Dubai's infrastructure.

Exploring the Prosperous Deira

On the return journey, the guide will delve into the cultural and economically vibrant Deira side. During the early days, numerous government edifices, including Dubai Municipality and banks, adorned the Deira Creek vicinity.

A standout structure on Deira Creek is the Sheraton Hotel, heralded as Dubai's inaugural five-star hotel. The creek's expanse also became the residence of numerous other hotels.

The Old Souk Experience

Upon the return journey, one cannot miss the alluring aroma of spices wafting from the Old Souk and discover more about the public library.

Exploring Al Shindagah Cultural District

Upon disembarking from the boat, visitors can explore the Al Shindagha Museum, offering a meticulously curated cultural tour. This immersive experience guides participants through 21 meticulously adorned houses, each resonating with the timeless allure of mud bricks and coral rocks. A noteworthy highlight within the Al Shindagah district is the Al Maktoum Residence, providing a captivating glimpse into the lives of the Royals during those early days.

Within this cultural district, visitors not only gain insights into Dubai's remarkable evolution but also have the opportunity to appreciate the meticulous preservation of traditions and cultural heritage.
