For citizens and residents of the UAE, the Emirates ID is a mandatory identity card. With it, holders can access government services or easily pass through immigration using airport smart gates.
As a matter of fact, losing this important document would cause most people to panic. However, there is a service called "Fawri" that can provide you with a replacement within 24 hours. This service is provided by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security. There is an additional service fee associated with this service. Eligibility Criteria for Fawri and How it Can be Used:
UAE and GCC nationals who reside in the UAE can use 'Fawri'. Applicants of all ages are eligible to apply. Emirates ID cards can be issued for the first time, renewed or replaced if they have expired or are damaged.
Non-GCC nationals (Expats) can replace lost or damaged identity cards with this service.
What to do if an Emirates ID card has been lost, stolen or damaged?
In case your card has been lost or stolen, you can deactivate it by going to the nearest ICP Customer Happiness Centre along with identification documents and reporting the incident in order to deactivate the card.
If your card gets damaged, bring the old one.
Documents Needed for Emirates ID Replacement Through Fawri
UAE Nationals: Original valid passport and family book.
GCC Nationals: Document proving residency in the UAE.
Expat Residents: Original passport stamped with a valid residency permit.
Note: If the lost ID belongs to a child under 15, the parent must provide an original birth certificate of the child as well as a coloured passport photo against a white background.
Process of Emirates ID Replacement
This service can be obtained through the application or by visiting the government department. The following steps will explain how the process works.
- Fill in an application form at any of ICA’s Customer Happiness Centres.
- You can also request a replacement ID card using the UAE ICP app, available on IOS or Google Play. You can find links to the apps below.
- After that you need to pay the fees.
- ICP will send the applicant a text about the status of the submitted application and the expected delivery date. The ID card will be issued within 24 hours from the time of submitting the express service application.
- When you receive notification that the card is available, contact Emirates Post to organise receipt of the card.
Cost of Emirates ID Replacement
Replacement cost for a lost or damaged Emirates ID if applied through a typing center: AED 300 along with an application fee of AED 70.
Replacement cost for a lost or damaged Emirates ID for online application (eForm): AED 40
The express service cost is an additional AED 150.
