In accordance with the Islamic Hijri calendar, the Emirates Astronomy Society has calculated the dates of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr in 2024.

In accordance with astronomical calculations, Rabi Al Awwal, the month following Safar, is likely to begin on September 16 according to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society.

Astronomically, Ramadan will begin in the second week of March 2024. The Islamic festival Eid Al Fitr is likely to fall on April 10.

Dates will be determined by the sighting of the crescent Moon, which is the basis of the Islamic Hijri calendar. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, Islamic months last either 29 or 30 days, depending on when the Moon is sighted.

During the period from dawn to dusk, Muslims fast from when the call for Fajr (morning) prayer is given until the call for Maghrib (dusk) prayer is given.

The month of Ramadan is one of the holiest of the year for Muslims around the world. A Muslim commemorates the revelation of the Holy Quran by abstaining from food and drink during the day, developing self-control, being thankful, and having compassion for those who are less fortunate. They also dedicate more time to praying and reading the Holy Quran.

Holy Month brings a sense of spirituality to the UAE. School and office timings are relaxed and shortened as Muslims abstain from food and water during the day.

Eid Al Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal (the month after Ramadan) at the end of Ramadan. In addition to Zakat Al Fitr, a special prayer in the morning, a feast, and sweets are all part of the celebration.
