Many people celebrated the Eid Al Adha holiday on the beach on Sunday but in Ras Al Khaimah, heavy rains lashed parts of the emirate.

Videos posted to Storm Centre, a social media account that tracks extreme weather, showed downpours deluging the Ajili region.

The footage shows powerful 4x4s forced to slow down as driving rain falls in waves over the motorway. Some even pull over to the side of the road.

Another video shows a man walking in the rain clearly celebrating the summer downpours.

The National Centre of Meteorology had warned of unsettled weather and videos posted to its account also showed rain hitting Al Ain at the weekend.

And on Monday, forecasters cautioned that even more could hit eastern parts of the country by the late afternoon.

The rainfall coincides with searing temperatures of 44°C in other parts of the country over the past few days. But contrary to some beliefs, the UAE can experience mixed weather during the normally scorching summer. The monsoons in India directly contribute to this as water water-soaked clouds drift across from India. This causes the phenomenon known as khareef in Oman, where the desert turns green, and it also brings rain to the UAE's mountainous east.

Looking further ahead meanwhile, the NCM has warned that on Wednesday gusts of up to 42kph could kick up dust clouds in exposed parts of the country.
