An Indian Embassy in the UAE has warned expats about a fraudulent social media handle and email address used to defraud them. According to the mission, some individuals are defrauding "innocent Indian nationals" using Twitter's @embassy_help account and protonmail's ind_embassy.mea.gov email address.
The criminals arrange expats' travel from the UAE to India by sending messages and collecting money.
There is no affiliation whatsoever between Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi, and twitter handle @embassy_help and email address ind_embassy.mea.gov@protonmail.com, the mission said in a statement.
All official email addresses, Twitter handles, Facebook IDs, and telephone numbers are available on the embassy's official website.
In order to avoid falling into the trap of unscrupulous elements, it is advised to cross-check the details of the embassy's e-mail IDs and social media accounts on our website. Please note that all Indian missions/posts' email addresses end with @mea.gov.in," the mission said.
Besides @IndembAbuDhabi, the embassy's only Twitter handle is @IndembAbuDhabi. "Beware of communications received from entities impersonating the embassy or its officials."
