Are you planning to celebrate New Year's Eve in Dubai? Take public transport — both the Dubai Metro and the Tram will run for an extended period anyway.
According to a senior official of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), these two major transportation services will run nonstop for 40 hours from December 31.
Timings are as follows:
- Dubai Metro: From 8am (December 31) until the end of January 1
- Dubai Tram: From 9am (December 31) until 1am (January 2)
As part of the RTA's expansion plans, 230 buses will be made available free of charge to the public.
According to RTA CEO Abdullah Yousif Al Ali, the authority seeks to minimize traffic congestion by expanding Metro and tram services, adding parking spaces, and offering free bus rides.
It is also expected that regular taxi services will continue during New Year's Eve.
As a result of these measures, the RTA continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing Dubai's transportation infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of its citizens and guests.
Facilities for additional parking
For the benefit of people watching the New Year celebrations, the RTA has set aside approximately 900 extra parking spaces at Al Wasl and Al Jafiliya.
Extra parking facilities will accommodate the influx of vehicles during the festivities, making it convenient and secure for attendees to park their cars.
Road signs
Signage systems have been rolled out to guide commuters and revellers during the festivities, Al Ali said.
There are signs strategically placed along the roads to direct traffic, indicating where parking is available and where buses can be picked up.
A variety of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) signs and variable message boards will be erected to provide real-time information about road closures, alternative routes, and open pathways.
The RTA is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and hassle-free transportation experience as Dubai rings in 2024. To enhance the emirate's transportation infrastructure and ensure its citizens' and guests' well-being, the authority continues to demonstrate its commitment.
