An exhibition inaugurated in Sharjah showcases structures fashioned from repurposed telephone poles, bamboo shoots, and raw construction materials. The Sharjah Architecture Triennial's second edition emphasizes inventive design solutions, promoting creativity and resourceful use of materials across four locations in the emirate. Open to the public, the exhibition also includes workshops for children, aiming to educate visitors about their environment and sustainable living, as noted by Sheikha Hoor Bint Sultan Al Qassimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation.

Curated by architect Tosin Oshinowo, this triennial presents the works of 30 architects, designers, and studios from 26 countries, on display until March 10, 2024. Beyond mere exhibitions, the Triennial will explore how practices of re-use, collaboration, and adaptation contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future, including efforts to minimize waste by sourcing materials locally and creating reusable exhibits.

Within the exhibition at Al Qasimiyah School, seats and tables have been crafted from locally sourced construction materials, illustrating the commitment to reducing waste. Oshinowo highlighted the intention to resell materials back to local traders after their use in the installations, showcasing the endeavor to limit waste production.

This event, initially established in 2018, aims to provide a platform for architecture and urbanism, featuring projects throughout the city and surrounding areas, engaging various locations, from the old Al Jubail Vegetable Market to the desert. Sheikha Hoor mentioned the positive impact on the city, with local companies showing interest in the creations on display.

During the event's opening, Sheikha Hoor paid tribute to her late twin brother, an influential figure in urban planning in Sharjah who had a passion for architecture and design. Despite his passing just before the event, she remains dedicated to fulfilling the shared vision they held for the project, aiming to continue the work he had aspired to accomplish.
