In an era marked by the escalating sophistication of online scams and impersonations, the ability to distinguish genuine authorities from fraudulent entities is of utmost importance.
The impersonation of law enforcement agencies presents a significant threat, with scammers exploiting the reputation of institutions such as the Dubai Police. This guide aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to identify and thwart such scammers.
In a recent social media post, Dubai Police issued a reminder to residents regarding fake payment requests, urging them to cease any transactions involving personal information. The agency emphasized the prevalence of scams where individuals receive text messages prompting immediate payment of purported traffic fines, accompanied by a payment link.
To help residents identify fraudulent messages from 'Dubai Police,' the law enforcement agency shared the following tips:
1. Verify the sender's email by clicking on the address. Legitimate communication from Dubai Police will always use the domain @dupaipolice.gov.ae.

2. Disregard and report any emails not containing the @dupaipolice.gov.ae domain.

3. Avoid clicking on links in suspicious emails impersonating Dubai Police.
Residents are advised to watch for signs that a message may be fraudulent, such as poor grammar, misspelled words, an unidentified number or ID lacking the authority's name, a payment link, or urgent payment requests.
For legitimate traffic fine payments, Dubai Police recommends using their official website (https://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae) or the Dubai Police mobile app on Android and iOS devices. Additional payment options include apps like RTA and Dubai Drive.
Dubai Police encourages individuals to report any suspicious SMS or emails to the e-crime division, social media channels, or by calling 901. Authorities emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant and exercising caution when asked to provide personal information or make payments.
