According to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), an earthquake of magnitude 1.6 was detected in the UAE's Dibba area on Wednesday. The authorities stated that the minor temblor was recorded in Fujairah at 6.18am at a depth of 5 kilometres.
In addition, the Met Department reported that while many residents experienced minor tremors, no significant effects have been reported. Many took to social media to say they felt the mild quake, and a commenter said she felt the tremors in the Al Badia area.
The UAE's residents do not need to worry about earthquakes, experts said earlier.
"We are not on an active seismic belt in the UAE, so we are safe," Khalifa Al Ebri, director of the Department of Seismology at NCM, had said previously.
"We have frequent tremors ranging from two to three in a year. People do not feel most of these tremors and they are just detected by sensors. All these tremors do not affect buildings or the infrastructure (in the country)."
