Enquiries and appointments at car repair shops throughout the UAE have surged significantly as drivers in the Emirates seek assistance for damages resulting from recent rainfall.

Sony Rajappan, an automobile expert at Car Lynx in Al Quoz, noted, "The impact on vehicles, from flooded engines to compromised braking systems, has translated into unexpected repair costs for many." The rain has transformed roads into waterlogged paths across various regions, compelling drivers to navigate through pools of water, proving to be costly for many.

"Numerous cars are stranded, with vital components taking a beating," remarked Sony. Drivers often found themselves unexpectedly stuck in water pools when attempting to traverse large puddles. According to Bilal Ahmed, a mechanic at Rukn al Majaz workshop in Ras Al Khor, "Many motorists come to us with braking issues, worn-out car tire liners, undercover damage, and more, particularly sedans and low-floor cars."

Experts emphasize that the frequent occurrence of cars getting stuck in water pools is due to drivers accelerating heavily in an effort to exit swiftly. Sony explained, "Several car manufacturers position their air filter inlets at a low level. If this inlet is submerged in water and the driver revs the engine, there's a risk of water being drawn into crucial components, potentially leading to engine seizing."

"In the latest car models, the circuit module for electric steering, electric parking, and brake sensors is situated low, at tire level. If water infiltrates this area, it can result in a malfunction," added Sony, emphasizing the need for replacing many components. Experts strongly recommend residents avoid using low-floor cars like sedans, hatchbacks, and convertibles during the rainy season. These vehicles, with their lower ground clearance, are more prone to water entering critical components, posing a risk of potential damage.

Opting for vehicles with higher ground clearance during this period can significantly minimize the likelihood of encountering issues associated with waterlogged roads, ensuring a safer and more reliable driving experience in adverse weather conditions.
