The fire that struck their home in Sharjah on Tuesday morning killed an Emirati man and his daughter.
Among the fumes, the father suffocated, while the 12-year-old girl suffered severe burns, according to Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm.
At around 4.27am on Monday, Sharjah's Civil Defence Authority received a report about a fire that broke out in a house in Al Suyoh 16.
Immediately, emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene. While firefighters were putting out the blaze, the team found the girl in the courtyard and her father was pulled out of a room, the report said.
While the National Ambulance team made every effort to treat the young girl's burns, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The Emirati man was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
The neighbourhood was shocked by the tragedy. The Sharjah Civil Defence Authority called on all residents to exercise caution and follow fire safety rules. It also reiterated the importance of installing smoke detectors and unplugging all appliances and electronics before going to sleep. Ensure that all electrical devices at home are in good working order by checking them regularly.
