The rapid ascent of the UAE within a few decades has become a global source of inspiration. The inception of this remarkable journey prompts the question: When and how did it all begin? The answer is now provided by the newly launched encyclopedia.

In a lavish ceremony held in Abu Dhabi, the National Library and Archives (NLA) unveiled the inaugural encyclopedia of UAE history. The event drew the participation of prominent cultural and academic figures, including specialists, experts, and researchers. Aimed at preserving the nation's memory, the project compiles the NLA's "holdings and treasures of historical records, documents, and sources on the Gulf region... and the UAE," as highlighted by Abdullah Majed Al Ali, the director-general of the national library.

Scientific committees and teams, comprising renowned researchers, academics, and intellectuals, have played a crucial role in the creation of this encyclopedia. Al Ali emphasized the distinctive nature of the Encyclopaedia of UAE History, noting its documented and authentic historical information that serves as a comprehensive resource for understanding the UAE's ancient and illustrious history.

Initially issued in a digital format, the encyclopedia consists of seven sections. The first section focuses on the UAE's geography, location, area, natural resources, and physical features, while subsequent sections delve into the country's history. The project is slated for completion within five years, with the NLA encouraging the active participation of scientific and cultural institutions, researchers, and specialists to enhance its richness.

History holds a profound significance in the UAE, as acknowledged by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He remarked that the history of humanity on UAE soil spans thousands of years, narrating a story passed down to future generations and the world. The UAE's deserts, mountains, and seas bear witness to the resilience and creativity of its people, a testament to their ability to overcome challenges and contribute to the nation's current development, prosperity, and progress.
