On Monday, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the UAE has established the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) to regulate national lottery and commercial gaming.

The GCGRA has named Kevin Mullally as its CEO, who has more than 30 years' experience in national and international gaming regulation.

GCGRA's operations will be overseen by Abu Dhabi, as with all federal agencies. However, the rulers of each of the seven emirates will have the power to decide whether to allow gambling.

Reports have said the UAE is looking for new ways to boost its tourism industry after Wynn Resorts announced late last year that it would open a casino at its new resort in Ras Al Khaimah.

Dubai is home to the world's most famous hotel, Caesars Palace, but it doesn't have a casino.

The GCGRA will create a socially responsible and well-regulated gaming environment, ensuring that all participants adhere to strict guidelines and comply with the highest standards, according to the WAM statement.

“The agency will coordinate regulatory activities, manage licensing across the nation, and unlock the economic potential of commercial gaming responsibly,” it stated.
