Those days of extreme summer heat in the UAE are coming to an end. The much-anticipated Suhail star is expected to be seen over the southeastern horizon of the Arabian Peninsula, starting from the dawn of August 24, according to a UAE astronomer.

The arrival of this celestial event traditionally marks the end of the extreme heat and the beginning of warmer weather. UAE residents and visitors can look forward to enjoying cooler evenings and more comfortable days.

According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, the Suhail star (or the Canopus) signals the end of summer, a sign that scorching temperatures will decrease and more temperate weather conditions will prevail.

People in the region initially expected the star to appear on August 15 or 18, due to the change in weather.

“Canopus cannot be observed before August 20 in southern regions such as Liwa and before August 25 in northern regions such as Ras Al Khaimah,” said Al Jarwan.

Though the rising of the Suhail star has cultural and historical significance in the region, it does not immediately affect weather conditions. While it marks an astronomical event, it doesn't directly result in instant weather moderation.

People of the Arabian Peninsula have always been keenly interested in observing the stars since they were able to predict the start of the season, the rainy season, and the periods of hot and cold weather.
