The 2023 edition of the Sheikh Zayed Festival, launching in Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba on Friday, promises a captivating experience with mesmerizing fireworks, a breathtaking drone show, and a diverse range of activities showcasing the UAE’s rich history and heritage.
Under the patronage of UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the direct supervision of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the 114-day-long festival is set to enchant crowds by seamlessly blending culture, heritage, and entertainment. Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Adviser to the President, and Head of the Higher Organising Committee, along with a high-level delegation, expressed satisfaction and commended the organizers' efforts during the final preparations.
He underscored Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed's keen interest in the festival and its events.
Named after the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the festival has evolved into one of the world's largest cultural events, contributing significantly to elevating Abu Dhabi’s status as a key tourism and cultural destination.
The previous edition garnered the participation of over 2.5 million visitors and was enjoyed by 7 million followers and viewers, as highlighted by Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Member of the Higher Organising Committee.
Festival Highlights:
Running until March 9, the festival offers residents and tourists a chance to immerse themselves in the rich Emirati heritage, savor delectable food, and create unforgettable moments of joy and entertainment. The opening day features a spectacular fireworks display and drone show, with subsequent fireworks every Saturday at 10 pm.
The festival introduces a unique ‘Flora and Fauna Reserve’ showcasing rare animals and birds.
The revamped ‘House of Horror’ promises an even scarier experience. The ‘Heritage Village’ provides insights into Emirati heritage, featuring arts, crafts, and products within the marine, land, mountain, and agriculture environments of ancient Emirati society.
Families can enjoy thrilling rides and activities at ‘Fun City’. Other attractions include the ‘Union Parade,’ the largest custom car show challenge, the ‘Emirates Fountain,’ the ‘Glow Flower Garden,’ the ‘Flying Restaurant,’ the ‘Children’s Village,’ an agricultural excellence award, an art district, various competitions, and draws.
The festival offers a fantastic lineup of live performances, entertaining shows, and surprises during weekends and public holidays.
Special festivities to celebrate National Day include dazzling shows and performances at the Heritage Village and international pavilions, featuring folk art shows, military musical performances, firework and drone displays, and Emirates Fountain activities.
The festival operates from 4 pm to midnight, extending until 1 am during weekends and public holidays.
