"Dubai Air Wing's C130 Hercules isn't merely a large aircraft; it's a genuine hero in times of crisis. Over nearly four decades, this aircraft has undertaken numerous noble missions to assist people affected by natural disasters or conflicts.

From delivering relief supplies to earthquake victims in Morocco to flood victims in Pakistan and Libya, this aircraft has transported essential aid and reached out to those facing calamities worldwide.

On October 23, Khaleej Times had the opportunity to witness this aircraft in action, as it delivered vital supplies to Al Arish Military Base in Egypt on six separate flights, totaling over 50 metric tons of aid for Gaza. Originally part of the UAE Air Force, the C130 joined the Dubai Air Wing in the mid-1980s, becoming a symbol of compassion and assistance.

Experienced Pilots For the past four decades, this aircraft has been under the command of experienced pilots from its Air Force days. Piloting this mighty machine for the last 36 years are Colonel Mohammed Al Hashimi and Colonel Muhammed Al Ghanem, assisted by a flight engineer in the cockpit.

No Runway? No Problem "What sets this aircraft apart is its capability to operate from any level ground. It doesn't require a traditional runway and can take off and land in unconventional environments, enabling rapid response to those in need," explained Colonel Al Hashimi.

Versatility The aircraft is highly versatile and can carry an impressive payload of up to 20 tons. It can cruise at speeds exceeding 350 mph at an altitude of 22,000 feet, making it suitable for both short missions lasting just 20 minutes, such as a flight to an island near Doha in Qatar, and long-distance journeys, like from Chicago in the United States to Pakistan.

The dedicated captains of this aircraft emphasized their readiness to respond to calls for aid worldwide and offer assistance whenever it is required.
