The UAE Cyber Security Council has issued a warning regarding a phishing campaign and fraudulent text messages purporting to be from Apple support.
As per the advisory released by the authority, the phishing campaign involves the use of short SMS messages that falsely claim the recipient's Apple account has been closed or suspended. These messages may also request a review of the phone number linked to the account.
The scammers aim to harvest personal information by encouraging recipients to click on a link provided in the message and input their user credentials.
Residents are strongly advised not to respond to such messages or click on any embedded links. To safeguard against falling victim to such scams, here are some recommended measures:
- Avoid contacting any numbers provided in suspicious messages.
- Refrain from clicking on links in messages from unfamiliar sources.
- Keep your device and applications regularly updated.
- Never share your confidential information and avoid responding to unsolicited messages.
- Maintain regular data backups.
- Exercise caution when receiving text messages that request personal information.
- Enable two-factor authentication for all your accounts.
